Google strenthens mobile search

Google has given further wait to searches made from mobile phones by announcing that the index for mobile searches will become the primary index and that its desktop index will be updated less often.

This comes as the number of searches on mobiles has now outstripped desktop and tablet searches.

Last year Google changed its algorithm to give more weight to mobile friendly websites for mobile searches.  This resulted in many traditional desktop only sites falling in the rankings on mobiles and a rush to get sites upgraded with a mobile website option.

The full implications are not yet clear as it could mean that the mobile search engine ONLY looks at mobile friendly content in future.
